About Me

I am a political scientist and psychoanalyst by training, a New York and Upper West Sider by geography, and an American of Jewish descent by primary identity. I grew up in a small town on the Jersey shore and went off to Prep School (Pennington), College (Rutgers/History-Political Science) Graduate School (American University/MA in International Relations; University of Pennsylvania/MA-PhD in Political Science), a Clinical Psychology doctoral program (Long Island University) and psychoanalytic training (The Institute for Self Psychology). I have been happily married to my wife Judith, a psychoanalyst in private practice, for 25 years. We have two wonderful, very accomplished children David and Jonathan. At this point, I have published thirteen books and about ninety professional articles details for which can be accessed on CUNY Graduate Center Faculty Website
